How to Search Martin County Civil Dockets
Begin with the official County & District Clerk page and its LGS Online Record Search. Martin County runs one clerk office. But civil custody still follows the court. The District Clerk function holds district civil and family matters. County civil and probate work sits with the County Clerk function. Limited civil and eviction records stay with the assigned Justice Court.
The LGS login screen offers account and Guest Login choices. It presents no fixed set of post-login search fields. Bring an exact cause number when you can, and avoid guessing at wildcard tricks.
- Identify district, county, probate, or JP jurisdiction from the filing or notice.
- Enter LGS through the county clerk's official link.
- Use the exact cause number or the party and court controls actually displayed.
- Match the court, style, filing date, and events before relying on a result.
- Request the needed pleading, order, or certified judgment from its custodian.
Three Martin Civil Starting Points
Ordinary civil cases share no single Martin County docket. Major district civil and family work goes to the 118th District Court. The constitutional County Court handles the county civil and probate functions that law assigns it. Justice of the Peace Precincts 1 & 3 and Precincts 2 & 4 keep their own dockets. Those cover limited civil, small claims, and evictions. Living in Stanton does not send an ordinary civil lawsuit to Stanton Municipal Court. That is simply the wrong place to search.
| Matter | Starting court | Custodian |
|---|---|---|
| District civil or family | 118th District Court | District Clerk function |
| County civil or probate | Constitutional County Court | County Clerk function |
| Limited claim or eviction | Assigned Justice Court | JP clerk |
Pick the court first, then the portal. That order is the safest approach to a Martin County civil docket search, because a no-result often means you queried the wrong court rather than that no filing exists.
What a Martin County Civil Docket Shows
A civil docket gives you the case identity plus a dated log of activity. Expect fields such as cause number, court, style, filing date, and case type. Party roles and counsel appear where public. Service events, motions, orders, hearing settings, judgment, disposition, costs, and document links round out the log. Remember what a line is. It is an index entry. The text of the pleading or order may not be there at all.
| Cause number | The unique court identifier copied exactly from an official paper. |
|---|---|
| Case style | The caption naming the parties. |
| Process and return | Issuance and return details showing service activity, not proof of final liability. |
| Setting | A hearing, conference, trial, or dismissal-calendar date. |
| Judgment | The court's signed resolution, which should be read rather than inferred from an event label. |
Martin JP Rule 507.3
The county-hosted Texas Rules of Civil Procedure for Justice Courts give the best public checklist for a Martin JP civil docket. Under Rule 507.3, the docket should show the title of the suit; first process and return with dates; appearances; the petition and other papers; adjournments and requests with time; trial and jury facts; verdict; judgment and its date; and postjudgment motions and orders.
Use the checklist to tell whether a JP record is a docket entry, a filed paper, or a final judgment. Not every field appears through LGS, so treat the rule as a standard rather than a sample of a private case. Call 432-756-3445 to identify the right precinct first. Precincts 1 & 3 use P.O. Box 1116; Precincts 2 & 4 use P.O. Box 1518, both in Stanton, Texas 79782.
Types of Martin County Civil Cases
Martin County civil dockets cover contract and debt disputes. Injury and property claims, family matters, probate or guardianship work, small claims, and evictions also appear. The broad label "civil" matters less than jurisdiction and case type. A family filing may sit with the district clerk yet contain restricted information. Probate work is a County Clerk function. A limited claim belongs to the assigned JP.
- District civil claims and family cases in the 118th District Court
- County civil matters in the constitutional County Court
- Probate and guardianship records through the County Clerk function
- Small claims and other limited civil matters in Justice Court
- Eviction proceedings in the assigned JP precinct
Let the court printed on your citation, petition, notice, or judgment decide where you look. Courts with similar names are not interchangeable record keepers.
Martin Civil Filing Costs
The county-linked civil fee sheet is a scanned copy with no date on it. Both the county and district civil tables show a $350 baseline. Treat that figure as a starting point only. Citations, subpoenas, writs, service, certified mail, later filings, copies, and certification can each change the total. Viewing a docket is also free-standing. It is not the same act as filing a suit or serving process.
| Published item | Amount |
|---|---|
| General civil baseline | $350, subject to the table and case |
| Citation, subpoena, or listed writ | $8 |
| Martin County Sheriff service | $100; writ service $175 |
| Non-certified district paper copy | $1 per page |
| Certification | $5 per instrument where applicable |
Call 432-756-3412 and confirm the current total before sending payment. A portal document charge, a filing fee, a service cost, and a certified-copy fee each pay for something different.
Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets
Martin County posts no standalone civil trial calendar. To find a setting, look in the case docket, then check the newest notice or order and confirm with the correct court. Know what the setting is. A motion setting deals with one request, while a trial docket groups cases for trial. An announcement or status setting usually concerns readiness. A dismissal-for-want-of-prosecution setting warns that dismissal may be coming, though the listing itself is not a judgment.
A reset or continuance moves the schedule without deciding the dispute, and older dates stay in the event history. For district settings, the 118th District Court coordinator uses 432-264-2225. County Court date questions go to 432-607-3536. JP matters go to 432-756-3445. See the Martin County court calendar process for the full confirmation chain.
Martin Civil Dispositions Defined
Match every outcome word in a Martin County civil docket to the signed order. Tie it to the right party and claim. A nonsuit is simply the claimant taking a claim back under the governing procedure. Default judgment is different. The court may grant it once the legal requirements for default are met. DWOP is short for dismissal for want of prosecution. Settlement activity alone does not prove a case ended in dismissal. A transfer or consolidation moves the file or joins two proceedings. Yet the original cause number can survive that move.
- Nonsuit
- A voluntary step ending a claim as allowed by the governing rule.
- DWOP
- Dismissal for want of prosecution, usually confirmed by an order.
- Default judgment
- A judgment entered after the court finds default requirements satisfied.
- Consolidation
- An order joining cases or issues for court administration.
Read the final order itself, because one docket entry rarely spells out every term or limit of a judgment.
Public Access to Martin County Civil Dockets
Civil dockets open to the public can still carry sealing orders, confidentiality rules, and redactions. Family, juvenile, DFPS, adoption, and similar protected information may stay off the portal entirely. The limits in Family Code section 58.007 on juvenile records do not lift just because another part of the case is public.
Access distinction: Texas Rule 12 policy concerns judicial administrative records. Adjudicative case files are requested from the court clerk under court access law and orders. The Texas Public Information Act is not a shortcut around a sealing or confidentiality rule.
Ask the clerk whether a public redacted version can be released. A missing image does not mean the whole Martin County civil docket is sealed. Sometimes only the document image is restricted while the event index stays open.

Note: Confirm copy fees and document availability with the clerk before mailing a request.
